Photo of Old Main
Historic Old Main is the iconic symbol of North Central College in Naperville, IL. Since its founding as a Methodist institution in 1861, North Central College has offered students a comprehensive liberal arts education. North Central’s 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students pursue more than 50 areas of study and carry with them a strong understanding of leadership, ethics and values.

North Central College’s newest 265-bed residence hall opened in September 2009 and wraps around nearly 100,000 square feet of competition and recreation space that includes a 200-meter track. The Res/Rec Center is the only combined dormitory/recreation center on a college campus in the nation and was built to achieve LEED Silver certification. Competing in 22 intercollegiate NCAA Division III sports, North Central claimed the 2010 Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Championship and the 2009 Men’s Cross Country National Championship, where the Cardinals posted the largest-ever margin of victory in the meet’s history.

The new Fine Arts Center also features a black box theater, art gallery, rehearsal space and classrooms. North Central’s fine arts program boasts more than 150 student and professional events per season, and students have opportunities to direct and star in theatrical productions, perform with 17 different vocal and instrumental ensembles and display their artworks in three galleries on campus.

Biology major Matt McCary is among 32 students representing North Central College at the 24th National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) April 15-17, 2010, at the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. The number of participants is among the most of any institution represented at the conference. Matt, along with other classmates and his professor, spent seven weeks studying salt marshes in Oregon to help ecologists understand the effects of urbanization on coastal regions.

Members of North Central College’s award-winning Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter are operating a store in downtown Naperville where they sell a variety of organic, certified green, certified fair trade and direct-trade items, including coffee and various crafts produced in Central American and African countries. North Central’s SIFE students also are featured in a 14-part video series about the coffee trade. View episodes at www.missioncoffeecan.com.
